Imogen Powell

Psychotherapist/Counsellor

My commitment to equality and diversity: I create a therapy dynamic where people feel safe to express their preferences and needs, as my aim as a counsellor is to empower you in every way I can. I always take into consideration a person’s preferred gender/sexuality alignment, ethnic and cultural identification, learning needs and styles, including appreciating your neuro-diversity identification.

My Approach: My integrated/pluralistic person-centred perspective is so important to continually cultivate as ‘one size does not fit all’ and I know this to be true as I have searched and found my psychological understanding in so many different vessels over my life.

My view is that everyone has the potential to experience personal peace despite the cards they were dealt with and that within each one of us is an inner source of strength which just needs to be re-discovered.

I am a ‘friendly, funny and trustworthy person who will give you useful therapeutic perspectives but will also help you learn to value the insights you have about yourself.’ (client’s words).

My Role: As your counsellor, my aim is to create with you a respectful thinking space from where you can unpack your feelings and take a good thoughtful look at your personal landscape. I will encourage you to include all your positive aspects.

My Skillset: I work effectively with a variety of evidence based best practices in all different forms of bereavement and loss work; estrangement; substance misuse; hidden harm.

I use a trauma informed model offering therapy to people carrying childhood/adult trauma issues.

I also work with the more common issues of depression and anxiety, concerns around relationship and work, assertiveness, living with a chronic illness and co-dependency.

My work with young people: When working with young people (aged 11 and above), I always consider the family and friends as part of the individual’s life system, and I seek to work with family and carers with the informed agreement of the young person.
